US Seafood Giant Bumble Bee Foods to Use SAP Blockchain Tech in Supply Chain

North America’s largest branded shelf-stable seafood firm Bumble Bee Foods has launched a blockchain platform for seafood traceability. The project was created in collaboration with German tech company SAP specializing in enterprise software, according to a press release on March 8.

Based on SAP Cloud Platform Blockchain service, the new platform can purportedly monitor the supply chain of yellowfin tuna from Indonesia to end customers.

SAP Sets Blockchain Course by Mike Vizard: "SAP by the middle of 2018 plans to make an instance of a blockchain database available based on an instance of the open source Hyperledger project that will be primarily employed across multiple community clouds hosted by SAP. 

 SAP for now is providing access to a blockchain as a service offering via an early access program to both IT services providers and IT organizations such as Capgemini, Deloitte, GrainCorp, HCL Technologies, HERE Technologies, Moog Inc., Natura Cosméticos S.A., NetApp and PeerNova. Gil Perez, senior vice president for digital assets and the Internet of Things (IoT) at SAP, says the distributed ledger that SAP is making available on top of blockchain is part of the suite of IT services known as SAP Leonardo that SAP wraps around emerging technologies.

SAP to join Hyperledger community, SAP Ariba to build new capabilities into applications and Ariba Network to transform global supply chains

LAS VEGAS, NV – March 22, 2017 – Blockchain is among the most disruptive technologies of the day. SAP Launches New IoT Solutions at SAP® Leonardo Live - SAP GTT arrives
