How SAP Business Beyond Bias productizes inclusive processes within SuccessFactors – an illustrated review by Jon Reed

One of SAP’s best stories is its commitment to diversity via its Business Beyond Bias initiative. Powerful videos on diversity set the right tone at SAP, but that wouldn’t hold up in the long haul – not without a deeper effort.

At Sapphire Now 2017, I blogged about my video shoot with Dr. Patti Fletcher, Leadership Futurist with SAP SuccessFactors.

My prior article shows how SAP is tackling the issues, but there’s a big missing piece. Since Sapphire Now, I’ve been tracking how SAP is embedding inclusive processes within SuccessFactors. Tackling “inclusion” in software means confronting algorithmic bias. It means acknowledging that no software is neutral. But it also means helping customers understand their choices. Customers don’t want to be forced down a narrow path of mandatory actions.

Choosing SAP HR module complicated by S/4HANA, SuccessFactors options

Five years ago, SAP made a major addition to its human capital management portfolio by buying SuccessFactors, one of the biggest vendors of HCM software as a service. But with human resource features starting to appear in SAP's next-generation ERP system, S/4HANA, what's the right SAP HR module to buy?

In a podcast, TechTarget contributor Luke Marson, who co-founded a consultancy that specializes in SuccessFactors implementations, offers advice on choosing an SAP HR module.

"If you're looking for core HR with S/4HANA, Employee Central would be the HR system you would look at," Marson says. "They're designed to integrate together and work together, and that's the long-term roadmap for SAP."

The choice is different, however, for organizations that are already running the on-premises SAP HR module, SAP HCM. They can still use S/4HANA with the on-premises HCM, he says.

Integration issues vary, too. Marson says the integration tools for sharing data between S/4HANA and Employee Central are better than those for Employee Central and SAP ERP (part of Business Suite, S/4HANA's predecessor). In contrast, the on-premises SAP HR module and finance module are "very tightly coupled," and run in the same software instance.

NEWS: OpenText signs global reseller agreement with SAP on HR document management

Enterprise information management solution provider OpenText has announced a new global reseller agreement with SAP, under which its Extended ECM solution will be sold as SAP SuccessFactors Extended Enterprise Content Management by OpenText.

The cloud-based solution, which has been designed exclusively for the SuccessFactors HCM Suite, will help organisations manage human resources and employee documents from generation to disposition in a secure and compliant way. According to OpenText, the solution will help businesses to improve their performance, efficiency and productivity by centralising document management.

“More than any other department, HR professionals are responsible for a vast amount of information which is pivotal to the organisation,” said Adam Howatson, chief marketing officer, OpenText. “Helping companies manage their essential employee records through a single, cloud-based source is a significant step for companies wanting to more effectively manage an increasingly global, digital workforce.”
